Former minister soil & water conservation and border affairs Nkhao Lotha passed away in Dimapur on February 5, 2026. Late Nkhao first served in the Nagaland Police and later represented the 39 Sanis Assembly Constituency in the 10th Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
According to family sources, the funeral service would be held at his residence at Land Mark colony, House No.118, Lane-2, Dimapur on February 6, 2026 at 8am. Nagaland Legislative Assembly (NLA) speaker Sharingain Longkumer expressed grief over the demise of Nkhao, saying his life was marked by a long and distinguished career in public service.
In a condolence message, NLA speaker Sharingain Longkumer said late Nkhao began his professional journey in the police department, where he served with integrity and distinction in various responsible positions across the State.
Longkumer said his unwavering dedication to duty earned him respect and recognition, including the Indian Police Medal.
After years of exemplary service, NLA speaker said late Nkhao continued his commitment to society through public life and he was elected to the 10th NLA from 39 Sanis A/C where he served as minister, Soil & Water Conservation and Border Affairs. Longkumer said that Nkhao Lotha throughout his life remained a humble and dedicated leader, deeply connected to his roots and to the people he represented.
NLA speaker said his invaluable contribution, both as a discipline officer and as a responsible legislator would be remembered with gratitude and respect.
NLA speaker, on behalf of the members of the 14th NLA, extended condolences to the bereaved family and prayed that Almighty God grant them the strength to endure this irreparable loss.
CM: State chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio has expressed deep pain over the demise of P Nkhao Jami Lotha, former MLA of 39th Sanis Assembly Constituency.
In a condolence message to Mrs. Nrinemi, the chief minister said late Nkhao was a hardworking and selfless leader who always placed the welfare of the people above all else.
Rio said that late Nkhao before entering politics had served the state government as a police officer and discharged his duties with sincerity and dedication, particularly in maintaining law and order.
The chief minister also said that as a former colleague he knew him to be a simple and humble person, approachable in nature and genuinely committed to public service.
Rio said the Lotha community and Naga society have lost a respected leader and an inspiring figure, adding that his contributions and legacy would always be remembered.
The chief minister extended condolences to the bereaved family in this hour of grief. He prayed that the Almighty grant them strength and comfort during this difficult time.
Patton: State deputy chief minister Y Patton also expressed deep paid over the passing of former minister Nkhao Jami. Patton stated that late Nkhao served Nagaland with dedication—first in the Nagaland police, and later in public life, representing the 39th Sanis AC. Patton said he remained a respected figure, known for his commitment and service.
The deputy CM extended condolences to the bereaved family, friends, and well-wishers.
JDU Nagaland youth wing: Janata Dal United (JDU) Nagaland youth wing also mourned the passing of Nkhao Jami and conveyed condolences to the bereaved family and near and dear ones.
In a condolence note, JDU Nagaland youth wing president Mhao Yanthan described late Nkhao as “a wonderful person” and stated that his kindness and wisdom during their long association in RJD together would always be remembered.
