Nagaland: Ex-PAN commends govt for banning ‘Gau Dhwaj’ yatra

Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) has lauded the decision the State cabinet to ban the “Gau Dhwaj Sthapna Bharat Yatra,” which was scheduled for September 28 in Kohima.

In a press note, Ex-PAN president Joshua Sumi and general secretary Tarie Zeliang commended the government’s maturity in protecting the rights and privileges of the people of Nagaland.

Ex-PAN emphasized that imposing religious beliefs and dietary practices in a secular and democratic nation like India undermines the rights to religion and choice enshrined in the Constitution.

They believed that allowing the “Yatra” would have hurt the religious and customary practices of the Nagas and could have destabilized the existing socio-cultural harmony among the diverse communities in the state.

The association was optimistic that the government, with such decisions, would continue to uphold and protect the rights of the people and prioritize the welfare and rights of the people.
