Ex-Parliamentarians Association of Nagaland (Ex-PAN) has congratulated the state government and the cabinet led by chief minister on “finally deciding” to implement the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN).
In a press release, Ex-PAN president Joshua Sumi and general secretary Tarie Zeliang said that the government’s “historic decision” to implement the RIIN would determine the future of all indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland and towards protecting the rights and privileges of Nagas as a people.
Ex-Pan said there had been some opposition to the decision from a few organizations and individuals. However, Ex-PAN affirmed to stand in complete support of the state government’s decision. It has, therefore, called upon all the stakeholders to unite in ensuring that the rights, privileges and identities of the Nagas were protected now and for the future through the implementation of the RINN.
Further, Ex-PAN impressed upon the state government to ensure that the cut-off date and year for determining eligibility must be maintained as December 1, 1963. It said that any dilution to the date and year would defeat the very purpose of implementing the RIIN.
“This is indeed a red-letter moment for the people of Nagaland which will go down the annals of history,” Ex-PAN said and assured the state government its full cooperation as and when required towards the successful implantation of the RIIN.
