Nagaland: Farmers trained on climate-resilient horticulture

The Centre for Livelihood Alternatives and Promotion Foundation (CLAP Foundation), a national-level organisation working to promote sustainable climate-resilient agriculture, diversified livelihoods and entrepreneurship, organised a one-day training programme on “Climate Resilient Horticulture (CRH) in Nagaland” at Murise village, Dhansiripar RD Block, Dimapur district, on February 14. The programme was supported by the Central Institute of Horticulture (CIH), Dimapur.
The training aimed at enhancing farmers’ capacity to adapt horticultural practices in view of changing climatic conditions. Sessions focused on practical approaches including improved crop management, efficient water use, soil health management and adoption of climate-smart technologies to minimise risks posed by erratic rainfall, temperature variations and extreme weather. Special emphasis was given to the effects of climate change on horticultural crops, mitigation mechanisms, crop diversification and changes in package of practices as adaptive strategies.
Resource persons included Samsing Taro, officer-in-charge, Spice Board of India, Dimapur, and Ariba Anar, State Coordinator, NERAC, Ministry of DoNER, North Eastern Council. They shared field-based experiences, successful case studies and practical insights to support effective implementation of CRH models.
Altogether, 50 farmers from Dhansiripar block participated in the programme. Local farmers actively engaged in discussions and shared field-level experiences, making the session highly interactive and relevant. The training contributed to building awareness and practical skills among farmers, enabling them to enhance productivity, strengthen resilience and improve livelihood security in the face of climate change.
