Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee, KU conduct joint inspection of foothills road works in Tizit division

DIMAPUR, NOV 30 (NPN)

A joint inspection of the ongoing foothills road works under Tizit division was carried out on November 29 by Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC), apex Konyak Union (KU), KU Tizit Sector, contractor M/S Onkho Constructions & Suppliers, officials of PWD (R&B) Tizit/Mon division led by the executive engineer, and local CSO leaders.
According to NFHRCC, after a deliberation held at the conference hall of KU Tizit Unit, the meeting adopted several resolutions wherein it was resolved that the two-lane foothills road would be completed first before initiation of the additional four lanes.
The meeting further resolved that the ongoing road works within Mon district would be jointly monitored and inspected by Konyak Union, concerned department and NFHRCC in a concerted, unbiased manner, with a renewed commitment to maintain stronger coordination between NFHRCC, KU and its units to materialise the project at the earliest.
Stating that the working season had already arrived, the meeting urged immediate issuance of the second phase work order under the SASCI Scheme in the remaining divisions across the State so that no community is left behind.
The inspection was carried out from Lapa Lampong point towards Sufury Bridge, covering 20.4 km. The contractor explained the reasons for the delayed commencement and requested a time extension, assuring that the work would be completed within the working season up to March 2025.
NFHRCC asked the firm to submit an official time-extension request to the department concerned and endorse a copy to NFHRCC.
Work progress was found to be 30–35% completed, though the workmanship was assessed as satisfactory. The team also urged M/S Shangpoh Konyak (NPWD Cl-1/961) to immediately begin construction of the 11.80 m RCC solid slab bridge over the Tehak River, noting that access for material supply was feasible from both ends.
NFHRCC appreciated KU president K. Yanmao Konyak and his team for their coordination with the contractor, department and committee representatives. It urged all stakeholders in Mon district to continue working diligently until the “dream Naga people’s road” becomes a reality.
The Committee also conveyed appreciation to chief minister Neiphiu Rio and cabinet members for including the Foothills Road development project from Tizit to Khelma, and assured constructive cooperation to ensure early completion of the “Nagaland Survival Road”.
