Genesis CC, Old Riphyim emerged champions of the 30th Winter Cricket Challenge organised by Senior Noble Klan, defeating Waxen CC by seven wickets in the final match.
Winning the toss, Waxen CC opted to bat first and posted a total of 115 runs in 20 overs, losing eight wickets. The innings was steadied by Alok Sharma, who top-scored with 52 runs, and Shiva Mahadev, who contributed 20 runs.
Chasing the target, Genesis CC Old Riphyim faced an early collapse in the top order. However, the middle-order duo of Lijanbemo Patton and Nchumbemo Humtsoe anchored the innings with unbeaten knocks of 51 and 29 runs respectively, guiding their team to victory and lifting the coveted trophy.
Lijanbemo Patton was named Man of the Match (Final) for his decisive 51-run performance. Meanwhile, Nchumbemo Kikon of Genesis CC Old Riphyim was adjudged Man of the Tournament and Highest Wicket Taker, claiming 13 wickets in total. Hiketo Aye of Lancer CC was recognised as the Highest Run Getter, amassing 167 runs across four matches.
The champions walked away with a cash prize of Rs. 1 lakh, certificates, a trophy and tree saplings, while the runners-up received Rs. 50,000 along with certificates.
The final match was graced by special invitees Additional SP Wokha, Biren, and vice chairperson of Wokha Town Council, Nzano Kikon.
