Nagaland Global Social Innovation Day at Herbert Spencer School

DIMAPUR

Can Youth, in collaboration with Herbert Spencer School, Dimapur and supported by Catalyst Now India, organised a Global Social Innovation Day under the theme “How to Improve the Educational System for Adolescents?”, on November 19.

The event brought together students, teachers and youth facilitators to explore innovative approaches to strengthen adolescent education.
As part of the programme, an extempore speech competition was conducted where students shared insightful perspectives on making education more engaging, inclusive and skill-oriented. Participants highlighted the need for activity-based learning, mental health support, modernised curriculum, improved teacher–student communication and inclusive classroom practices.
Yakatoli of Class 10 was adjudged the winner of the competition, while A. Parveen of Class 10 secured the second prize.
Students also participated in poster-making and dialogue sessions, expressing their ideas on improving learning environments and support systems in schools.
Kevin Gonmei, education secretary of Dimapur Naga Students’ Union, graced the event as the guest speaker.
He lauded Can Youth’s efforts in empowering young people and promoting social innovation in schools. He emphasised the importance of listening to adolescents in shaping education policies and encouraged students to take active roles in societal transformation.
Zhove Lohe, secretary and director of Can Youth, invoked God’s blessing for the programme and shared about the organisation’s work in empowering marginalised children, adolescents and youth through education, skill-building, health awareness, leadership training and addressing social issues such as substance abuse.
Representatives from Can Youth encouraged students to continue developing innovative ideas and assured support for youth-led initiatives. The organisation also stressed the role of community involvement in enhancing adolescent well-being and improving the education system.
Can Youth expressed gratitude to the school management, teachers and students of Herbert Spencer School for their cooperation and enthusiastic participation, which contributed to the success of the programme.
