Nagaland: Gorkha Union Mkg celebrates Golden Jubilee

The Gorkha Union Mokokchung today celebrated their Golden Jubilee at the Town Hall in Mokokchung under the theme ‘Adapt and move forward’.
Sharingain Longkumer, Speaker Nagaland Legislative Assembly, who graced the occasion as the special guest, talked about how the Gorkha’s contribution in Mokokchung in developing the town since past many decades.
He also lauded the pioneers and founders for the history and legacy they have built. Dwelling on the history, the special guest stressed on socio-economic upliftment to develop Mokokchung through skills and labor. He also talked about adapting to each other’s culture and tradition to move forward cohesively.
Further dwelling on moving forward, the special guest talked about ‘Vikshit Bharat 2047’ wherein he envisioned Vikshit Mokokchung 2047 for a developed Mokokchung. According to him, for a developed Mokokchung by 2047 to happen, the contribution and cooperation of everyone is paramount as every citizen of the town aspires and visualizes a developed Mokokchung by 2047.
To achieve this, the special guest called for a combination of vision and strength in solving challenges and overcome shortcomings. He gave a clarion call to move forward together and urged all citizens to come forward to make a better plan for the future.
“On the occasion of the golden jubilee celebration, I urge everyone to adapt one another and move forward”, he said. The special guest also released the jubilee souvenir.
Earlier in the program, short speeches were delivered by Ajit Kumar Verma, deputy commissioner Mokokchung. Imtipokyim, general secretary Ao Senden and Nobin Pradhan, president Nagaland Gorkha Association.
A one-minute silence was observed for the departed at the start of the program. The welcome address was delivered by Maniraj Rai, convener, jubilee organizing committee, while Sanjay Rai, director (Retd) talked about the significance of the day. The program also witnessed presentation of folk dance and the presentation of jubilee anthem. The vote of thanks was pronounced by Prahlad Gurung, president, Gorkha Union Mokokchung.
