DIMAPUR, JUN 22 (NPN): Nagaland governor Nand Kishore Yadav on Monday stressed the need for a future-ready, value-based and holistic education system capable of preparing students for emerging challenges and opportunities.
Addressing the Byatikram Education Conclave 9.0 at Town Hall here, organised by Byatikram Group in association with The Times of India, Yadav said that as India advances towards the vision of “Viksit Bharat 2047”, the education system must equip young people not only with academic knowledge but also with skills, values, creativity and an innovative mindset.
Referring to the National Education Policy 2020, he said the policy provides a roadmap for educational transformation through multidisciplinary learning, critical thinking, innovation and skill development. He noted that it encourages students to become independent thinkers capable of addressing real-world challenges.
Highlighting the impact of artificial intelligence, digital transformation and rapid technological advancements, the governor said students must develop a lifelong learning mindset and remain adaptable.
Governor stressed that education should nurture innovators, problem-solvers and responsible citizens.
“Education should empower students not only to seek jobs but also to create opportunities and contribute meaningfully to society,” he said, adding that the future of the country depends on the ability of its youth to apply knowledge creatively and responsibly.
Yadav also highlighted the Northeast’s strengths, including its rich cultural diversity, unique heritage, indigenous knowledge systems and youthful talent.
He said that when combined with quality education, research and innovation, these strengths could transform the region into a centre of knowledge, creativity and economic growth.
The governor paid tribute to teachers, describing them as the architects of the nation whose dedication and guidance shape future generations.
He also congratulated students for their academic achievements and encouraged them to strive for excellence while serving as role models. Yadav remarked that true success should not be measured solely by personal accomplishments but also by the positive impact individuals make within their communities and society.
Also addressing the conclave, ICFAI University Nagaland vice-chancellor Amit Kumar Aditya emphasised the importance of preparing students for a future shaped by constant change and emerging opportunities. He said educational institutions must focus not only on existing careers but also on professions likely to emerge in the years ahead.
Aditya said NEP 2020 rightly emphasises flexibility, multidisciplinary learning, skill development, innovation, entrepreneurship and holistic education.
He added that modern education should aim to produce graduates who were knowledgeable, skilled, ethical, adaptable and globally competitive. Speaking on the educational landscape of the Northeast, he said the region possessed immense human potential, rich cultural heritage and abundant natural resources, but required a robust educational ecosystem to translate these strengths into sustainable development opportunities.
Meanwhile, Swami Chinmayanandaji Maharaj, joint secretary of PVHSS, underscored the importance of value-based, moral and spiritual education. He said education should not be viewed merely as a means to attain wealth, status or professional success, but as a process that nurtures character, wisdom and spiritual growth. He further observed that individuals should remain guided by moral values and responsibility towards society and the nation.
The conclave also featured panel discussions. Around 10 schools participated in the event.
