Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association begins 2-day pen down strike

DIMAPUR/WOKHA, FEB 24 (NPN):

Nagaland Government Teachers’ Association (NGTA)– erstwhile SSA and RMSA 2010 and 2013 batches comprising 2,293 members– began its two-day pen down strike Tuesday following department of school education (DoSE)’s failure to respond to its seven-day ultimatum to include their salary component in the state non-plan budget.
In Wokha, more than 200 teachers joined the strike. The agitation disrupted academic and administrative activities in several government schools across the district.
At PM SHRI Government High School Wokha, assistant headmistress Loreni Ngullie reported that eight teachers from the school were participating. She highlighted the heavy workload shouldered by teachers including classroom teaching, co-curricular activities, and administrative duties. She noted that their absence has created serious challenges in managing daily responsibilities.
At PM SHRI Government Middle School C, head teacher Renbemo P. Tungoe stated that seven teachers were on strike, resulting in disruptions to regular classes and examination preparations. He warned that prolonged agitation could further harm students.
In GMS Sector B, Wokha Town, head teacher T. Liremo Ovung said six out of 17 teachers belonged to the agitating batches. At PM Shri Government Middle School, Wokha Town A, head teacher Chibeni Humtsoe informed that nine teachers were participating, adding their absence has disrupted school activities.
NGTA has warned that if the demands remained unaddressed, the association would intensify the agitation through peaceful and democratic means in the coming days.
