Governor PB Acharya attended the inaugural session of Science and Technology Conference of 86th Sivagiri Pilgrimage at Shivagiri Mutt, Varkala, Kerala on Tuesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Acharya stated that Sree Narayana Guru, considered Father of Kerala Renaissance who famously proclaimed “One Caste, One Religion, One God for Mankind”, was a guiding principle for the people even now and had a greater relevance in the present time. He said Sivagiri Mutt was a major spiritual-cum-pilgrim spot associated with the “hallowed memory” of Sree Narayana Guru, a great yogi and siddha revered even by Mahatma Gandhi for his unrelenting crusade against untouchability and casteism.
The governor said the Guru always wanted to develop a society where people never quarrelled and none was discriminated in the path of progress by combining spiritual and temporal matters, “thus liberating and leading them to enlightenment and progress.” He pointed out that the Guru stressed abstention from religious conflicts and promote universal peace, harmony and prosperity of all religions. He called on the gathering to the follow the teachings of Guru for a better society and to strengthen the nation.
“Let us progress through education and strengthen through organisation. Let us emulate the teachings and principles of Guru and work for universal brotherhood and world peace,” he added.
