Nagaland Governor holds meeting with PHED officials

Nagaland governor, Nand Kishore Yadav, held a comprehensive review meeting with the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) at the Naga Bhavan Conference Hall, Lok Bhavan, Kohima on Monday.
According to a Lok Bhavan statement, PHED officials led by secretary PHED, Zarenthung Ezung, presented an overview of ongoing water supply and sanitation initiatives in the State. He highlighted progress under key national programmes such as the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) and Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen). The department informed that Nagaland has achieved 94.91% household tap water coverage, with over 3.45 lakh households connected under JJM as of April 1, 2026.
It was also informed that several districts have made significant progress, with some blocks already achieving 100% Functional Household Tap Connections (FHTC).
Further, officials highlighted that 1,258 villages (88%) in the state have been declared ODF Plus, reflecting sustained efforts in sanitation, solid and liquid waste management, and community hygiene practices.
Success stories from various districts, including community-led water supply systems and waste management initiatives, were showcased, demonstrating strong local participation and ownership. Governor reviewed key challenges such as depleting water sources, funding constraints and maintenance issues. Yadav emphasized the need for sustainable water management practices, timely project execution and stronger community involvement.
He also stressed the importance of rainwater harvesting as a sustainable solution to address water scarcity, particularly in urban and water-stressed areas and encouraged the department to promote its adoption across the State.
