Nagaland governor stresses on value-based education

Nagaland governor, Nand Kishore Yadav, graced the Xavierite Academic Closing Day for the 2025–2026 session at St. Xavier College, Jalukie, Peren, on April 17.
Extending greetings to the college community, the Governor congratulated the management, faculty, students and parents for successfully completing the academic year. He said institutions like St. Xavier College play a vital role in shaping responsible citizens with strong values, discipline and a spirit of service.
Describing the occasion as one of reflection and celebration, Yadav emphasized that education goes beyond marks and degrees, encompassing character building, compassion, leadership and meaningful contribution to society.
He urged students to strive for excellence with humility and integrity, adding that true education empowers individuals to become better human beings. He also appreciated the role of teachers and parents in nurturing young minds and expressed confidence in the talent and creativity of Nagaland’s youth.
Deputy Chief Minister, T.R. Zeliang, in his address, acknowledged the Governor’s presence and lauded St. Xavier College as the only private higher education institution in the district.
He commended the college for maintaining affordable education, producing university toppers and introducing initiatives such as the “Earn and Learn programme” and “Payback Award” to encourage self-reliance.
Zeliang highlighted the importance of vocational courses and skill training, while appreciating the college’s sports infrastructure that has enabled students to represent the state and nation. He noted the institution’s achievements including NAAC Grade A accreditation with a CGPA of 3.12, NSS National Award, Governor’s Commendation Certificate and student participation in national-level events such as the National Youth Parliament, Republic Day Parade, National Games and Archery Championships.
Earlier, the programme began with the National Song and Anthem, followed by a presentation titled “Tamasyoma Gyotir Gamaya”. A welcome address was delivered by Ikaile, while the principal extended greetings. Cultural performances included a tribal tune by Japuvino and Paisuingaulule, and a fusion dance by the Cultural Club. The commissioning of Sadbhavana Projects was also part of the event.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Pauziulung, followed by the National Song and Anthem.
A photo session, drone show and the Know Your Army campaign conducted by Assam Rifles were also held.
