Nagaland GST collection grows 28.4% in FY 2025-26

DIMAPUR, APR 1 (NPN):

Nagaland has achieved a significant 28.4% growth in Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection during the financial year 2025-26 compared to the previous financial year.
Citing recently released all-India data, CGST Dimapur informed that the all-India total GST collection for FY 2025-26 has crossed Rs.22.27 lakh crore, registering an 8.3% increase over the previous year.
It said GST was the largest source of own tax revenue in Nagaland’s budget contributing up to 68% (previous year’s figures) of the state’s own tax revenues.
CGST Dimapur also said Nagaland has been among the top-performing states in India in terms of percentage growth in GST collections over the last year.
As a consumer state with a limited industrial base, it said the destination-based nature of GST has redirected more tax revenue to Nagaland, enhancing its fiscal strength.
Despite the slashing of rates in the GST 2.0 reforms introduced in September 2025, CGST Dimapur said rising consumption appeared to have led to a boost in tax collection.
Officials attributed the rise in collections mainly to increased consumption across the state.
The improvement in GST collections has been supported by sustained outreach activities conducted by both the State and Central GST formations to educate and sensitise the business community on the importance of timely and ethical tax compliance.
Further, enhanced enforcement measures, coupled with the ongoing digitalisation of tax processes, have improved transparency, simplified tax filing, and boosted overall compliance levels among taxpayers in the state.
