Pro Rural, a humanitarian NGO working across the North Eastern region, organised a series of health checkup medical camps in several villages of Kebai-Khelma region under Ahthibung block, Peren district, from February 4–6, 2026.
According to the organisers, the camps were conducted with the support of consultant health specialists including a general medicine doctor, optometrist, dental surgeon and the district MICTC team of the Medical Department.
Mobile health checkups and treatments were carried out at village council community halls and sub-centres, with reading glasses distributed to elderly persons with impaired eyesight.
During the three days, a total of 267 beneficiaries of different age groups were treated, with a large number of elderly persons availing the services. The initiative highlighted the pressing need for better healthcare access in remote rural villages where many residents lack the means to travel to towns for medical facilities.
The camps were conducted under the support of HCL Foundation’s grant competition, which Pro Rural won in 2025 for a one-year engagement in community healthcare under the theme “Healthcare Access for Every Family.” The initiative aims to improve access to essential healthcare services in underserved areas.
Pro Rural acknowledged the collaborative efforts of the District Medical Department, which deployed nurses and ASHA workers along with the MICTC team, reflecting a shared commitment to strengthening inclusive healthcare delivery in the district.
