Hill View Higher Secondary School, Mokokchung celebrated golden jubilee on Wednesday with Padmashree awardee T Senka Ao, as the guest of honour.
In his speech, T Senka Ao said Ao script came into existence with the coming of the American missionaries to Ao land and the establishment of a school by Lady Clark.
He also recalled how the brightest student during that time, Tongpangkokla went on to become the first teacher in 1882.
This led to the establishment of the first formal private school in Mokokchung town in 1902 with Senlikaba of Longkhum village as the headmaster.
Since, then the educational sector has progressed, and at present 16 private schools have been functioning in the district, he said. Senka also released the jubilee souvenir.
Meanwhile, proprietor and principal of the school Dr. Anungla Aier honoured the guest of honour and the special invitees. A special Cantata was presented by the students of School of Music under the proprietorship of Chubainla and the intercession was initiated by Asso.
