An awareness programme on scientific Mithun production practices was held on January 5 at the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat. The programme was organised by ICAR–National Research Centre on Mithun (ICAR–NRCM), Medziphema, Nagaland, in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry, Veterinary & Dairy Development, Arunachal Pradesh, the College of Horticulture and Forestry, Pasighat, and the Jomlo Mongku Mithun Farmers Federation, Siang.
The programme witnessed participation of over 200 individuals, including more than seven District Veterinary Officers (DVOs), officials from line departments and Mithun farmers representing various districts of Arunachal Pradesh.
Addressing the gathering, Dr. Girish Patil S., director, ICAR–NRC on Mithun, highlighted prevailing Mithun rearing practices and key challenges affecting productivity. He emphasised the importance of adopting scientific feeding, preventive healthcare and disease management to enhance production and improve farmers’ livelihoods.
A farmer–scientist interaction session was also conducted, facilitating exchange of field-level issues and technical solutions. The session further strengthened collaboration among researchers, veterinarians and farmers towards sustainable Mithun development.
