The 4th Peren District Inter-Village Volleyball Tournament 2025 commenced at the Government Higher Secondary School Ground, Jalukie town on Tuesday, with Deputy Commissioner Peren, Hiazu Meru, gracing the occasion as special guest.
In his address, DC Hiazu Meru emphasized that true sportsmanship begins with respect—for teammates, opponents, officials, and the rules of the game.
He said despite linguistic, cultural, and geographical barriers, the tournament brought together diverse communities, showcasing volleyball as a common language of unity and resilience. He also encouraged the gathering to view sports as a reflection of society and a contributor to economic and social development.
The DC also invited the public to attend the upcoming Unity Mini Hornbill Festival, scheduled from December 4 to 6, 2023. The festival will celebrate the cultural heritage of the Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei, and Kuki communities, further promoting harmony and shared identity in the region.
Organised by the Peren District Volleyball Association (PDVA), the opening ceremony featured a presidential address by PDVA president Kirangbe, followed by an oath-taking led by PDVA technical secretary Adaube Mpom.
