Nagaland Junior Athletics C’ships concludes in Kohima

The Nagaland Athletics Association has announced the successful completion of the 2nd Nagaland Junior Athletics Championships 2025, held on September 10 at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. The event aimed to identify emerging athletic talent across the state and select top performers to represent Nagaland at the upcoming 36th East Zone Junior Athletics Championships in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
A total of 92 athletes from Dimapur, Kohima, Mokokchung, Mon, and Noklak districts competed in various track and field events across three age categories: Under-14, Under-16, and Under-18, for both boys and girls.
In the Under-14 boys’ triathlon events, standout performances included Lanutemjen Kichu of Mokokchung (Triathlon A), Ilopu K Khujumi of Dimapur (Triathlon B), and Lemma of Dimapur (Triathlon C), each securing first place in their respective categories. Among the Under-14 girls, Anon M Konyak of Dimapur led Triathlon B with 1858 points.
The Under-16 boys’ category saw Imlinungba of Mokokchung win the 60m sprint in 7.5 seconds, while Alemwati Longchar of Dimapur topped the 600m race. Kohima’s Nchelo claimed gold in high jump with a leap of 1.60m. In the girls’ division, Neshe Maongyu Konyak of Dimapur clocked 8.4 seconds in the 60m sprint, and Supei S of Dimapur led the 600m race.
Among Under-18 boys, Kohima’s Avizha Zalie dominated the sprints, winning both the 100m (11.4s) and 200m (23.9s) events. Noklak’s Thangmeng K took the 400m title, while Sullim of Noklak led the 1000m race. In field events, Thengem L of Noklak achieved a 5.66m long jump, and Kelenguzo Dziivich of Kohima won shot put with a throw of 11.06m.
In the Under-18 girls’ category, Merin Beck of Dimapur emerged as the fastest sprinter, winning both the 100m and 200m races with Imnasenla from Mokokchung and Zevokhrienuo Rutsa from Kohima wining second and third respectively.
