Minister for Public Works Department (Roads & Bridges), G. Kaito Aye, undertook a two-day inspection of ongoing road projects under PMGSY–III on February 12 and 13, 2026, to review progress and ensure timely completion.
Kaito inspected road works covering Tsaphimi–Saptiqa (24.08 km), Saptiqa–Xukhepu via Ghikiye (25.21 km), L021–Shena Old (5.6 km), T-01–Lizu Old (11.66 km), and T-02–Naghuto (New) (8.18 km). During the visit, it was observed that progress of works was found to be slow, with several stretches yet to achieve the expected pace. While earthwork had advanced in certain roads, pavement activities remained inadequate.
Kaito directed contractors to prioritise stretches free from land issues and expedite works. He emphasised immediate preparedness for Full Depth Reclamation (FDR) and blacktopping where formation works were nearing completion. The contractors assured completion by March 31, 2026.
On February 13, he inspected the T-01–Mangmetong road (36.45 km), the longest single road under PMGSY–III, where progress was found to be slow. The contractor was advised to enhance manpower, machinery mobilisation, and supervision to accelerate work. The Department informed that 43 road projects covering 545 km are under PMGSY–III, with seven sets of FDR machinery deployed and additional sets expected shortly. Over 60 km of FDR work has been completed, with another 60+ km in progress. Blacktopping is set to commence in three roads. Kaito directed contractors to mobilise adequate machinery and manpower, establish multiple work camps for longer stretches, and ensure strict adherence to timelines. He noted that dedicated Project Implementation Units (PIUs) have been set up for PMGSY–III to improve coordination and accountability.
Acknowledging the cooperation of villagers and civil society, he urged contractors to match local support with professional execution. Further, Kaito stressed that PMGSY–III projects must be completed within the stipulated timeframe, maintaining quality and durability to deliver benefits to the people.
