Minister for Roads and Bridges, Government of Nagaland, G. Kaito Aye graced the 16th Satakha Area Sports and Cultural Association (SASCA) Men’s Football and Women’s Volleyball Tournament as the guest of honour on November 11 at the public ground, Satakha. The five-day event will conclude on November 15.
Speaking at the programme, minister Aye lauded the pioneers who have contributed to SASCA’s growth over the years and urged the youth to pursue excellence through sports, which he said foster discipline, health awareness, and unity.
Announcing developmental initiatives, the minister informed that the Satakha public ground would be upgraded, with visible changes expected in the coming years. He also highlighted the upcoming Lighthouse Higher Secondary School, encouraging parents to enrol their children in Satakha, assuring that “the best teachers are available.”
Calling on the youth to embrace hard work and creativity, Aye remarked, “If Satakha is to move forward, everyone must contribute with their creative mindset and ideas. We are one community.” He further appealed to the gathering to extend their efforts beyond the church by assisting the needy and working collectively for the betterment of the area. “The past is history, but the present shapes our future. Let us take responsibility and work together to build Nagaland,” he added.
The minister also announced upcoming projects, including the installation of a turf field and renovation and maintenance of the Satakha Public Ground.
SASCA president Kahuto Zhimo informed that while 18 to 19 villages are usually affiliated with SASCA, 13 villages are participating in this year’s tournament. These include Xuivi, Hoishe, Zungti, Sukhai, Kivikhu, Vishepu, Tukunasa, Satakha Old, Satakha Village, Kilo Old, Shoipu, Khukiye Lukhai, and Ghukhuyi.
Earlier, the inaugural session was compered by Hopito Jimo and Ilokali H. Zhimomi, with an invocation led by women leader of STBC (Aizuto), Inalito. Music Director of UBC Satakha, Elli Zhimo, presented a special number, followed by the presidential address delivered by Kahuto Zhimo. Students of Government Higher Secondary School, Satakha, gave a special presentation, while a speech from a special guest and an oath-taking led by Pekato marked the formal opening of the tournament.
