Nagaland’s karate contingent delivered a commendable performance at the recently concluded North East Sports Karate Federation India (NESKFI) tournament, securing five medals across various categories in Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh from October 10 – 12. The event also saw significant representation of Nagaland officials in the NESKFI Annual General Meeting for the 2025–2026 term.
Medal winners from Nagaland included: Tiabenla Jamir (Senior Female Kata) – Silver; Rahul Guniyan (Under-21 Male Sparring/Kumite) – Silver; Anshuman (Junior Boys Sparring/Kumite) – Bronze; Atom Swami Singh (Cadet Boys Kata) – Silver; and Huto (Under-21 Male Sparring/Kumite) – Bronze.
The team was led by coach Thsadang Sangtam and manager Akhonuo Angami, with officials T. Lanu Imchen, Sitender Kumar, Kasheto K. Sumi, Lithsamong, and Paungem Zeliang accompanying the delegation.
During the NESKFI Annual General Meeting, several officials from Nagaland were appointed to key commissions. T. Lanu Imchen was re-elected as Vice President of NESKFI for a three-year term till 2028, Thsathriba Sangtam – Referee Commission Member, Akumienla L. Imchen – Athlete Commission Chairperson, Dr. Senliwati Lungkumer – Medical Commission Secretary, and Temsunungsang Sangtam – Media Commission Member
The All Nagaland Karate Association (ANKA) expressed heartfelt gratitude to Advisor for Law & Justice and Land Revenue, Government of Nagaland, T. N. Mannen, for his generous sponsorship that covered all expenses for the team’s participation. His support was acknowledged as instrumental in enabling the athletes to represent the state with pride and achieve notable success.
ANKA president T. Sangtam and general secretary Temsu Sangtam conveyed the association’s appreciation, noting that the achievements reflect Nagaland’s growing excellence in karate at the regional level.
