Akumenla L. Imchen (a lance naik from 15th IR Mahila Battalion and a karate student of All Nagaland Karate-Do Association) from Nagaland has brought pride to the state by winning the Gold medal at the 19th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship 2025, held from August 7 to 10 at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi.
Competing in the Kumite (Individual, Senior Female) category in the above 68 kg weight class, Imchen demonstrated remarkable skill, determination, and sportsmanship throughout the championship. She secured the first position after a series of competitive bouts against some of the best karatekas from across the country.
The prestigious event, organized by Seiko Kai Karate International-India and Bharat Karate Academy, was approved by the Karate India Organisation (KIO) and recognized by the World Karate Federation (WKF), Asian Karate Federation, and other international bodies. The tournament saw participation from top athletes representing various states, making Imchen’s achievement all the more commendable.
Her performance not only highlights the growing presence of martial arts talent from Nagaland but also serves as an inspiration for aspiring sportspersons in the region.
