Kohima District Basketball Association (KDBA) on Wednesday organised a candlelight vigil programme at D. Khel Basketball Court for 22-year-old woman, whose body was found below her home at Old Ministers Hill, Kohima on October 25, 2025.
Speaking at the programme, KDBA president Khrielasakuo Keretsü expressed pain over the loss of its member, saying tragic act of violence stole a bright light from their world.
The deceased represented KDBA and won gold at Nagaland Olympics 2022. Besides, she also represented the state in under-23 National Basketball championship earlier this year.
Keretsü said she did not just play the game but was the heart of the game. KDBA president said she was a role model for every kid who watched her play.
KDBA president condemned the and affirmed continue to fight against the darkness that took her life., “We strongly condemn this inhumane act,” Keretsü said and urged the law enforcing agencies to thoroughly investigate and ensure that the perpetrators faced the harshest laws available.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Lawrence Solo thanked everyone’s for standing by their family during this tragic death of their daughter.
Condolence messages from the Nagaland Basketball Association and Kohima District Cricket Association were also read out.
The associations urged the responsible authorities and SIT team to expedite the investigation. They also called upon the authorities to act with urgency and transparency to ensure that the perpetrators were brought to justice.
Earlier, KDBA joint secretary Vizokhrienuo Khro offered invocation followed by lightning candles and observed a moment of silence.
