A Yhome FC and Langsa Hill FC registered crucial victories in their respective fixtures of the ongoing 9th Capt. N. Kengurüse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament, held at I.G. Stadium, Kohima on Tuesday, showcasing two contrasting yet equally compelling performances that delighted spectators.
In one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament so far, A Yhome FC edged past Bhandari FC 3–2 in a fiercely contested encounter that went right down to the wire. Despite commanding 66.29% ball possession, A Yhome FC were repeatedly tested by Bhandari FC’s compact defense and quick counterattacks, which made for a tense and engaging battle.
Bhandari FC took the lead early in the 17th minute when Renjamo Mozhui converted from close range following a swift breakaway. However, A Yhome FC responded almost immediately as Kevizakie equalized just a minute later in the 18th. The game’s tempo remained high, and in the 57th minute, Neikethozo put A Yhome FC ahead with a well-placed finish after a sustained attacking move.
Refusing to back down, Bhandari FC found their second goal through Sungchung in the 66th minute, bringing the score level once more. The defining moment came deep into extra time when Zhapuvi struck decisively in the 84th minute to hand A Yhome FC a dramatic 3–2 victory.
Throughout the contest, A Yhome FC maintained steady offensive pressure, registering 11 shots on target and earning six corners, while both teams committed six fouls each in a physically demanding midfield battle. Although Bhandari FC impressed with their resilience and counterplay, A Yhome FC’s determination and precision ultimately earned them full points.
In the second match of the day, Langsa Hill FC produced a dominant display to overpower Defenders FC in a one-sided affair, recording one of the most emphatic victories of the tournament so far.
Controlling 66.53% of the possession, Langsa Hill FC dictated the pace of play from the outset and launched relentless attacks that kept Defenders FC on the back foot throughout. The attacking duo of Ghuqhe and Eshong stole the show with remarkable performances—Ghuqhe netting a hat-trick (20’, 40’, 51’) and Eshong scoring an astonishing five goals (22’, 47’, 55’, 59’, 73’).
Adding to the tally, Hivika found the back of the net in the 34th minute, while Vinato struck in the 49th, sealing an overwhelming scoreline that reflected Langsa Hill FC’s attacking prowess and teamwork.
Langsa Hill FC registered 18 shots on target and nine corners, maintaining composure with minimal fouls. Defenders FC, by contrast, struggled to find rhythm and managed only one shot on and off target.
