Match Day 3 of the ongoing 9th Capt. N. Kengurüse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament witnessed two contrasting but equally compelling encounters at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, as Dimapur SC edged past Nagaland Police FC in a tense 2–1 finish, while Langsa Hill FC dismantled Wokha District Ex-Servicemen League Club with a commanding 6–0 victory.
In the first match of the day, Dimapur SC overcame a spirited Nagaland Police FC in a fiercely contested match that remained on edge until the final whistle. Dimapur took an early lead in the 13th minute when Rhitso capitalised on a swift counter-attack to slot home the opener, catching the Police defence unprepared.
Despite conceding early, Nagaland Police FC grew into the game, dominating possession with 51.76% of the ball and keeping Dimapur pinned in their half for long stretches.
Their persistence was rewarded in the 70th minute when Limakumzuk levelled the score, pouncing on a rebound to make it 1–1.
The equaliser injected momentum into the Police side, who pressed forward in search of a winner. However, Dimapur’s backline held firm, showing tactical discipline and composure under pressure.
Just when the match seemed destined for a draw, substitute Gaichui emerged as the hero, netting the decisive goal deep into stoppage time (80+2’) to hand Dimapur SC a dramatic 2–1 win.
Statistically, the two teams were evenly matched. Nagaland Police FC managed six shots on target to Dimapur’s five, while the latter created more overall chances with ten off-target attempts. The Police side committed 11 fouls and were caught offside 11 times — figures that highlighted Dimapur’s well-structured defensive organisation.
The victory marked a crucial statement of intent from Dimapur SC, whose sharpness in transition and resilience under late pressure underscored their growing reputation as one of the most tactically balanced teams in the tournament.
The day’s second fixture, however, was a one-sided affair as Langsa Hill FC produced a footballing masterclass to crush Wokha District Ex-Servicemen League Club 6–0 in a display defined by precision, control, and relentless attacking play.
Langsa Hill asserted their dominance from the opening whistle, maintaining 66.62% possession and dictating the tempo throughout.
Vinato opened the scoring in the 23rd minute from the penalty spot, before Pangersunep doubled the advantage in the 31st minute with a composed finish after a fluid team move. Eshong converted another penalty just before halftime to make it 3–0, leaving Wokha struggling to stay afloat.
The second half saw no respite, as Ghuqhe extended the lead in the 49th minute, finishing off a sweeping attack that sliced through the opposition defence.
Alei then rounded off the rout with two late strikes — in the 62nd and 80+2nd minutes — to complete his brace and Langsa Hill’s emphatic six-goal victory.
The statistics mirrored the dominance: Langsa Hill recorded 11 shots on target and 14 off target, compared to Wokha’s four on target and three off. The victors also earned four corners and four free kicks while maintaining defensive discipline throughout.
Wokha District Ex-Servicemen League Club managed only 33.38% possession and struggled to contain Langsa Hill’s relentless passing and pace, conceding territory and control for most of the match.
With this commanding win, Langsa Hill FC have firmly established themselves as one of the frontrunners in the competition, blending tactical structure with attacking flair and sending a clear message to their rivals.
