Peren District Football Association (PDFA) Junior FC and Satakha FC registered convincing victories in their respective fixtures of the ongoing 9th Capt. N Kengurüse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament, displaying clinical finishing and tactical composure to strengthen their campaign in the prestigious event at IG Stadium, here Wednesday.
In the first match of the day, PDFA Junior FC showcased a composed and commanding display to ease past Sungkomen PL FC with a 2–0 victory. From the opening whistle, the Juniors asserted control over possession and tempo, leaving Sungkomen struggling to find rhythm or consistency throughout the contest.
With a staggering 60.30% ball possession, PDFA dictated play across all areas of the pitch, orchestrating fluid build-ups and wave after wave of attacks. Their attacking intent was clearly reflected in 12 shots on target and 9 off target, as they continuously tested the opposition’s defensive resilience and goalkeeper.
Sungkomen PL FC, despite being under sustained pressure, managed a few promising breaks but failed to convert their limited opportunities, registering just one shot on target and two off targets. Their inability to capitalise on rare chances ultimately proved costly, while PDFA’s backline-maintained composure and discipline to deny any comeback.
The Juniors’ relentless pursuit was further reinforced through set-pieces, winning 14 corners that pinned Sungkomen deep into their own half. Though flagged 10 times for offside—a mark of their high attacking line—PDFA’s coordination and tactical execution remained sharp throughout.
The breakthrough came through Nrakhak in the 44th minute, followed by Chidiheu in the 51st minute, sealing a deserved victory for PDFA Junior FC, who are yet to concede a goal in the tournament.
Sungkomen PL FC, though resilient in spells, were outplayed in possession, intensity and organisation. The defeat leaves them needing to regroup and sharpen their attacking efficiency for the matches ahead.
Satakha FC stage dramatic 6–4 comeback over Phek Town FC
In another thrilling encounter of the tournament, Satakha FC produced a remarkable comeback to edge past Phek Town FC 6–4 in a ten-goal spectacle.
The match opened with Phek Town FC asserting early dominance, capitalising on quick transitions to take a 3–1 lead within the opening half-hour through goals from Tshetsho (1’, 13’), Veporayi (30’). However, Satakha FC’s fighting spirit soon turned the tide as they mounted a stunning rally led by Tokibe (15’, 54’), Punüvi (40+1’, 46’) and Aputo (43’, 61’), completing an incredible turnaround that electrified the crowd.
Statistically, Satakha FC’s superiority was reflected in 55.88% ball possession and 12 shots on target, compared to Phek Town’s 44.12% possession and 7 shots on target. The winners also earned 9 corners, consistently threatening from set-pieces and wide channels.
Despite their lower share of possession, Phek Town FC remained competitive, launching counterattacks that kept the game alive until the final whistle. Their attacking vigour, however, was undermined by lapses in defence that allowed Satakha’s forwards to exploit space with clinical precision.
Both sides played with aggression and heart, with 7 fouls committed by Phek Town and 5 by Satakha, yet the match remained largely clean and spirited.
The contest will be remembered not only for its ten goals but also for its display of determination, momentum shifts, and attacking brilliance from both teams—an exhibition of footballing passion that captivated spectators at the venue.
