Peren District Football Association (PDFA) Junior FC and Phek Town FC registered impressive victories in their respective matches of the ongoing 9th Capt. N Kengurüse, MVC Memorial Football Tournament at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima, on Monday.
In the first match, PDFA Junior FC delivered a dominant performance to thrash Shamatorian FC 6–0, demonstrating their attacking depth and composure on the field. The young side maintained early control of the game, dictating play with 57% possession and fluid movement through the midfield.
Namheichube broke the deadlock in the 10th minute with a calm finish and doubled the advantage just before halftime in the 43rd minute. Between his two goals, Gaichuipoi stole the spotlight by scoring twice in quick succession in the 30th and 36th minutes. He later completed his hattrick—the third of the tournament—in the 71st minute, cementing his reputation as one of the most clinical forwards in the competition. Substitute Ramchang added the final goal in stoppage time (80+1’), taking advantage of a defensive lapse to round off an emphatic victory.
Shamatorian FC, despite holding 43% of possession and showing moments of promise, were unable to convert their chances. Their defensive structure faltered under sustained pressure, conceding six goals without reply.
With this win, PDFA Junior FC extended their unbeaten run in the tournament, combining youthful energy with sharp attacking execution. Their performance reinforced their status as one of the tournament’s most formidable sides.
In the day’s second match, Phek Town FC edged past Damokles FC 1–0 in a closely fought contest. The decisive moment came in the 65th minute when Munguhu found the net following a defensive miscue, giving Phek Town the breakthrough they needed.
Damokles FC, who dominated proceedings with 61.85% possession, created numerous opportunities—registering 12 shots on target and an equal number off target—but failed to find the back of the net. Their profligacy in front of goal, coupled with an outstanding performance from Phek Town’s goalkeeper Muashevoto, proved costly.
Muashevoto stood out as the difference-maker, pulling off a series of crucial saves and maintaining composure under relentless pressure. Phek Town, holding just 38.15% of possession, executed a disciplined and compact game plan, relying on swift counterattacks and tight defensive coordination.
Damokles FC earned six corners and five free kicks but were repeatedly denied by a resolute Phek Town backline. As the final whistle blew, Phek Town FC celebrated a hard-earned victory that owed much to Muashevoto’s heroics in goal and Munguhu’s match-winning strike.
With both PDFA Junior FC and Phek Town FC securing crucial wins, the competition continues to intensify as teams push for a place in the group stages of the Kengurüse Trophy.
