Nagaland Kevisetuo Kire wins Kewhimia U-15 Kene C’ship

Kevisetuo Kire from D Khel on Saturday emerged as the champion of the Kewhimia U-15 Kene (Wrestling) Championship held at Pele Khezhie Indoor Stadium, Kohima Village.
Organised by Bout Lords and powered by the Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO), the championship drew enthusiastic participation from young wrestlers representing the four khels of Kohima Village.
In the keenly contested bouts, Kevisetuo clinched the title after overcoming tough competition, while Meguolhou Sote secured the second position.
Keneiphretuo Kire and Menguvor Khezhie finished in third and fourth places respectively. The winners were awarded cash prizes and trophies sponsored by KVYO vice president, Mhasimhalie Mathew Yhome.
Kohima Municipal Council councillor Kelhousenuo Khruomo presented an additional cash reward of Rs. 5,000 to the champion. All quarterfinalists and participants also received cash prizes in recognition of their efforts.
Earlier, the event was inaugurated with a brief programme chaired by Tournament Management director of Bout Lords, Khriesazo Liezietsu. KVYO president Er. Medozhazo Rutsa delivered the welcome address, while Shalom Bible Seminary assistant professor, Kevidzenyü Rutsa, offered the invocation prayer.
Kene secretary of KVYO administered the athletes’ oath, and the inaugural session also featured a special performance by Rüdielhounuo Sekhose and Pfulikhrie Keretsü.
The closing ceremony was chaired by KVYO games and sports secretary, Viliebeizo Liezietsu, during which the selected wrestlers for the forthcoming NASA Wrestling Meet 2026 (Group-A) were announced.
Bout Lords managing director, Kezhalelie Keretsü, delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the support of KVYO and the community.
Dignitaries present at the event included Kohima Municipal Council councillors Vimhalie Pienyü and Kelhousenuo Khruomo, vice president (administration) of ASA Neisavotuo Whuorie, and former Kohima Village Council chairman Medoselhou Keretsü, who jointly handed out the awards.
The championship, according to organisers, aimed to nurture young wrestling talents and promote the traditional sport of Kene among the youth of Kohima Village.
