Nagaland: KMC organises awareness on NCAP

Kohima Municipal Council (KMC), under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) 2024–25, organised an awareness programme on air pollution and air quality at D Block Ward Council Hall, Kohima, on December 13. The programme was hosted by Ward No. 6 (D Block Ward) under the theme “Together for a Pollution-Free Tomorrow.”
The programme commenced with an invocation by Yasanaro Aier, treasurer of DBYO, followed by a welcome address delivered by Thenusou Sekhose, Ward Councillor and Convenor of the Sanitation and Water Supply Committee, KMC. In her address, she stressed the importance of community awareness and collective responsibility in reducing pollution and improving air quality at both ward and city levels.
The technical session was led by resource person Yanathung Kithan, Scientist ‘B’ of the Nagaland Pollution Control Board, who presented on ambient air quality. He highlighted the current air quality scenario, major sources of pollution, health impacts, and practical measures that citizens can adopt to contribute towards cleaner air under the NCAP framework.
The programme witnessed active participation from ward leaders, community members, youth organisations and residents of D Block Ward, reflecting strong local engagement towards environmental protection. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Anet Imchen, social and cultural secretary of DBYO, followed by light refreshments.
KMC reiterated its commitment to working closely with the Nagaland Pollution Control Board and local communities to promote awareness, behavioural change and sustainable practices for achieving cleaner air and a healthier environment in Kohima city.
