Nagaland: Kohima College hosts ‘Yuva Utsav’

Kohima College, Kohima hosted the district-level “Yuva Utsav—India @2047”, a Pan-India flagship initiative of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India organised by Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) in collaboration with Kohima College.
The event was launched across 150 districts across India. This initiative was launched in commemoration of 75 years of Independence—Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav and PM Modi’s Panch Pran Amrit Kal, the first of it being “Goal of Developed India”, which was also the theme for several competitions in this Yuva Utsav.


Five competitions were simultaneously held for colleges and schools in painting, declamation, poetry, cultural show and photography. A formal programme for Kohima district Yuva Utsav was also part of the event.
The special guest for the programme was additional secretary YRS, Anthony Ngully, in his speech linked the Yuva Utsav initiative to India’s largely youthful population in his address—a fact that could be a ‘demographic dividend’ for the country if the Indian government could harness them as the Chinese government had done to propel itself into being a global economic powerhouse. The student audience were then, counselled to be patriotic and good citizens for their youth and skill to be useful for India’s growth.


General secretary, Kohima College Students’ Council (KCSC), Hyulo Tsela, conveyed the welcome address and a short introductory speech was delivered by NYKS representative, account & programme assistant, Ruokuovikho Chale, who pointed out that Yuva Utsav was designed to celebrate talented artists, poets, painters, orators, etc., amongst the Indian youth.
A short speech on HIV prevention and treatment awareness was also delivered by District Program Officer, District AIDS Prevention & Control Unit (DAPCU), Kohima NSACS, Sentimongla Tzudir. The programme was chaired by Thejavizo Venuh.


The programme concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, where Kohima College, Kohima and Mount Olive College, Kohima won the most prizes.
The winners of the various competitions are: Painting Competition – first by Tahimu Trakha, second by Bambambe Irangbe and third by Nukulu Hoshi.
Photogrpahy Competition – First by Neisaho Noho, second by S Nokpai Konyak and third by Lenpenthe.
Poetry Competition – First by Tsonger K. Jongphe, second by Joel Solo and third by Nüzokholü Shijo.
Cultural Show – Zeliangrong Troops and in declamation competition – First by Küvethi Swüro, second by Sameer Khati and third by Lenrishe Anar.
