Minister for Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse, inaugurated the newly constructed Community Building-cum-Car Parking Facility under Midland Ward (Ward 9), Kohima, on November 13.
In her address, Kruse stated that the project was not merely the construction of another building, but the creation of a shared space symbolizing progress, cooperation, and community development. She noted that colonies and wards across Kohima continue to face space constraints, infrastructure deficits, economic competition, sanitation issues, limited land for development, and water shortages, and emphasized that overcoming these challenges requires coordinated urban planning, infrastructure investment, and inclusive community participation.
Highlighting the significance of the new facility, Kruse said, “The completion and inauguration of this community hall stand as a testament to our commitment to enhancing the quality of life for everyone in this locality. We envisioned a space that would bring people together, a place to celebrate, unite, and nurture the spirit of community.”
She added that the inclusion of a car parking area alongside the hall addresses both social and practical needs by easing parking congestion and providing a safe and convenient space for residents and visitors. Kruse remarked that the facility sets a model example for other wards and colonies in Kohima to emulate, particularly where random parking continues to inconvenience the public.
Reaffirming the Government’s focus on grassroots development, the Minister said projects such as the Midland Community Hall reflect the vision of sustainable and people-centric growth. She expressed gratitude to all stakeholders, including land donors, KSDCL, the contractor, local authorities, council members, and residents for their collective effort in realizing the project.
On behalf of KSDCL, Er. Kezha Theünuo presented the construction report. He informed that the project was sanctioned, tendered, and work order issued on March 31, 2022, in favour of M/s Engineering Station at a cost of Rs. 72.91 lakh, covering civil works, site development, electrification, water supply, sanitary fittings, and a rainwater reservoir. The total plinth area of the community building is 7,800 sq. ft., comprising 1,755 sq. ft. (ground floor), 2,925 sq. ft. (first floor), and 3,120 sq. ft. (second floor). Facilities include parking for 12 cars, a conference hall, two office rooms, a kitchen, and separate restrooms for men and women.
Theünuo added that KSDCL has also constructed similar community buildings in six other municipal wards—New Market, Daklane, Nagabazar, Kitsübozou, North Block (Kezieke), and D-Block—under the Slum Area Redevelopment initiative. He expressed appreciation that these facilities are being well maintained by the respective ward councils.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by advisor Midland council, Keduozolie Nihu and a special song was presented by BKK Midland Baptist Church, Kohima. The vote of thanks was pronounced by vice chairman, Midland council, Tsao Paphino.
