Kohima Science College Jotsoma, Anti Sexual Harrasment Cell in collaboration with Internal Quality Assurance Cell organized awareness programme on cyber safety security on September 21 with Additional S.P Cyber Crime, Vizhatuo Michael Yhome, as resource person.
Vizhatuo Michael Yhome, in his speech stressed on the importance of adapting and learning about the new set of problems that inevitably arises with further developments, particularly cyber threats which was infused with real-life instances and also acted as a helpful comprehensive tool for everyone in attendance.
He also discussed about the cyber crimes scenario of Nagaland which were broadly of two types. Firstly, financial frauds; under this specific set of cyber crime was numerous types of sub divisions like phishing, lottery scam, OLX scam, etc.
Secondly, he covered the various types of crimes that came under social media, namely cyber stalking, impersonation, fake news, sextortion and criminal intimidation amongst many others. Yhome elucidated each of these topics in clear detail, enlightening everyone on how to recognise and evade such unlawful acts.
“We humans have lost sense of our values”, he said. “We don’t know what it means to have real human connections anymore given how everyone is glued to their devices.” As he concluded, Yhome briefly went through all the points he discussed prior and urged everyone to stay vigilant of the various cybercrimes taking place.
Principal, Dr. Temjenwabang, delivered the Welcome Address and talked about the dangers and threats of the virtual world and rapidly-evolving trajectory of human civilization. He also advised the students to pay heed to their, as he calls it, “cyber hygiene” as much as they do to their personal hygiene.
