Nagaland: KU flays violence at Khamtiang village

DIMAPUR, JAN 12 (NPN)

Konyak Union (KU) Headquarters, Mon, has strongly condemned what it described as “brutal and senseless act of violence” that took place at Khamtiang Village (Pangsau area) under Myanmar’s Naga Self-Administered Zone on January 9, 2026.
KU president K.Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak stated that “lieut” Avi Pochury and “sgt” Peyao Konyak of NSCN-K (Ang Mai) faction were killed while another cadre was seriously injured in an alleged attack carried out by NSCN-Yung Aung (YA) faction.
KU expressed anguish and outrage that such fratricidal bloodshed occurred at the onset of the New Year—a period meant for reflection, reconciliation, and renewed commitment to peace.
The apex Konyak body asserted that violence among Naga groups was a grave betrayal of the shared sacrifices, history, and aspirations of the Naga people.
It maintained that such internal conflicts only weakened the Naga political movement, eroded trust, and perpetuated fear and suffering among innocent civilians who yearn for peace and stability. KU said that continued loss of Naga lives at the hands of fellow Nagas was “unacceptable” and must cease immediately.
Further, KU urged all Naga political factions to exercise utmost restraint, respect the sanctity of human life, and abandon violence in favour of constructive dialogue and peaceful engagement. “Unity among Naga brothers and sisters is not optional, it is imperative for achieving a just, honourable, and lasting political solution,” KU stated.
Meanwhile, KU affirmed solidarity with the bereaved families of the deceased cadres and extended condolences during this time of immeasurable grief.

KU Tobu unit flays factional clash: Konyak Union KU) Tobu unit has also strongly condemned the factional clash between NSCN-K(Angmai) and NSCN-K (Yung Aung), which it said “does not define the cause for Naga sovereignty.”
KU unit through its media cell stated that such acts of violence only resulted in bloodshed among Naga brothers, creating further wounds, division, and sorrow within own community.
KU Tobu asserted that violence against one another could never be justified and did not serve the cause of the Naga people.
The union said that Naga struggle must not turn into a fight among Nagas, adding that sovereignty cannot be achieved through fratricidal violence.
Therefore, KU unit has appealed to all cadres from the Tobu area associated with both factions to return home and choose the path of peace.
KU Tobu unit reaffirmed its commitment to peace, unity, and dialogue as the only way forward for the Naga people.
Meanwhile, KU Tobu unit, on behalf of Tobu public, has conveyed condolences to the bereaved families of late Sergeant Peyao Konyak and Late Lieutenant Avi Pochury of NSCN-K(AM), who were killed at Khamtiang village in Pangsau area of Myanmar on January 9, 2026.
