The Konyak Union (Myanmar) (KU-M) has issued a statement addressing recent developments and interactions concerning the Naga political issue.
In a press note, KU(M) president PM Aman and general secretary K Akham Honwang said that on September 11, 2024, KU(M)interacted with NSCN (I-M) army chief ‘gen.’ Ningkhan Shimray, which focused on NSCN (I-M) and their efforts to address the public’s concerns and build peace in the region.
During the meeting, KU(M)said Shimray expressed profound gratitude for the engagement and addressed NSCN (I-M) efforts to return to Eastern Konyak after a significant period.
KUM said he highlighted the group’s initiatives to foster unity and peace among different Naga factions. The union said that Shimray reiterated that the NSCN (I-M) aims to promote peace and charity rather than seeking contributions or support from the public.
KU(M) said Shimray underscored the importance of Eastern Nagalim in the Naga National Movement, noting the sacrifices made by the people of the region. He emphasized the group’s commitment to unity and peace and their intention to support all Naga people, it said.
KU (M) also called on all Naga national workers to remember the sacrifices made by the people and to work together honestly and practically to achieve lasting peace and unity among the Naga factions.
The statement concluded with a call for all factions to reflect on the efforts made by the Mount Veda Peace Mission and to focus on practical solutions for peace and unity in the Naga Nation.
