Konyak Union (KU) has appealed to the police department for decentralisation of the general duty (GD) police recruitment oral interviews from Dimapur to respective district headquarters.
In the representation addressed to the director general of police (DGP) Nagaland, KU president Yamao Konyak and general secretary Wango Konyak lauded the department’s transparent and equitable recruitment process for GD constables, which provides valuable opportunities to Naga youth.
However, KU highlighted the challenges faced by aspirants from remote and economically underprivileged areas, particularly Mon district. KU said candidates from far-flung rural regions incur heavy financial burdens due to exorbitant transportation costs, long travel times, and accommodation expenses.
The union also pointed out that many were forced into debt or compelled to withdraw from the process altogether. KU also highlighted limited availability of lodging facilities coupled with severe overcrowding during recruitment periods causes immense inconvenience and distress, especially to candidates traveling from distant districts.
KU argued that decentralising oral interviews to district headquarters would alleviate those hardships, ensure equal access, reduce financial strain, and encourage broader and more inclusive participation. KU has, therefore, appealed to the DGP for consideration of the request in the interest of justice, accessibility, and equitable opportunity for all aspirants.
ENLU: Eastern Nagaland Legislators’ Union (ENLU) has also asked the DGP Nagaland to take serious note of the proposed centralisation of the Constabulary Oral Interview for the Nagaland Police Recruitment-2026 at Dimapur.
In a letter to DGP Nagaland, ENLU convener and minister P Paiwang Konyak insisted that the oral interviews be conducted in the respective districts, strictly in adherence to the decentralised recruitment policy.
