Kuluvezo Soho emerged champion of the 47th Wrestling Meet 2025 organised by Phek Wrestling Association (PWA) at Phek village on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old Kuluvezo, son of Veniechi Soho, pocketed the champion’s prize of Rs. 40,000 sponsored by Dr. K. Hoshi, former candidate of 19th Phek A/C.
Basayi Keyho, son of late Vechochiyi Keyho, secured the second position and received Rs. 25,000 sponsored by Zhokupa Hoshi, Assistant Programme Officer, DoSE Kohima. Thupumutu Chizo, son of Kuvepa Chizo, stood third and was awarded Rs. 15,000 sponsored by Shepalu Venuh, vice principal of Phek Government College. The fourth position went to Nieyi Vero, son of Ngope Vero, who received Rs. 10,000 sponsored by Rukuto Venuh, VCM Phek village.
In the ‘B’ Team category, Muzi Keyho, son of Zhokhopa Keyho, bagged the champion title with Rs. 10,000 sponsored by Kuveduyi Venuh, EBRC coordinator Phek block. Kethose Vero, son of Kevisetuo Vero, stood second and received Rs. 7,000 sponsored by Veshe Chizo, president Phekmi Collegiate Forum. Muluvo Rhakho, son of Kuvoyi Rhakho, took third place with Rs. 5,000 sponsored by Kukhotso Keyho, GT/GMS Phek Basa, while Shete Vero, son of Vesakho Vero, stood fourth and received Rs. 3,000 sponsored by Hiivekholu Keyho, Women VDB secretary, Phek village.
In the Under-15 category, Zuveo Keyho, son of Shemutu Keyho, clinched the first prize of Rs. 15,000 sponsored by Lavoto Chizo, NPF president 19th A/C Phek. Bizo Chizo, son of Zavishiyi Chizo, stood second with Rs. 10,000 sponsored by Kupoyi Hoshi, PIS DIS Mon. Zhovetha Venuh, son of Kuzhopa Venuh, bagged third place with Rs. 8,000 sponsored by Er. Vekhochiyi Rhakho, JE PWD (NH), Phek division, while Kuvenu Venuh, son of Thupunezo Venuh, stood fourth with Rs. 6,000 also sponsored by Er. Vekhochiyi Rhakho.
Chakhesang Public Organization (CPO) president Vezuhii Keyho graced the closing ceremony and gave away prizes to the winners.
Earlier, special guest Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu MLA, in his address, exhorted that in any profession—be it business, sports, entrepreneurship, education or other activities—only those who put God first will shine in life. He cautioned that while “Jack of all trades” may suit politicians, it does not apply to talents, sports or other professions where mastery is essential.
The meet was officiated by Surhoneyi Soho, international wrestling referee (UWW). Kuniesa Vero, PA to Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, was the chief patron. The inaugural ceremony was led by PWA finance secretary Dzuthoyi Hoshi, while PWA president R. Bibi Soho delivered the presidential address. PWA technical secretary Veta Soho administered the oath to the wrestlers.
