The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of ICAR-KVK Dimapur and ICAR-KVK Kiphire was held on January 28 at the ICAR Regional Centre, Nagaland, with Mhathung Yanthan, advisor of Agriculture as the chief guest.
The meeting was attended by senior officials including Limanenla, Joint Secretary, Government of Nagaland; Sanuzo Nienu, Director, Agriculture; Dr. A.K. Mohanty, Director, ICAR-ATARI VII; Dr. Girish Patil S, Director, ICAR-NRC on Mithun; Prof. Pauline Alila, Dean, SAS, Nagaland University; and James Suw, ADC, Medziphema.
Welcoming the gathering, Dr. H. Kalita, Head of Regional Station, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, Nagaland Centre, Medziphema, reiterated KVK’s mandate of promoting sustainable farming practices at the grassroots level. On the occasion, three technical bulletins and a newsletter were released by chief guest Mhathung Yanthan.
Yanthan emphasized the importance of climate-resilient technologies, interdisciplinary collaboration, and rural entrepreneurship development, particularly for women-led SHGs. Addressing the meeting, Dr. A.K. Mohanty highlighted the need for convergence between departments to better serve farmers in Nagaland.
The meeting was attended by officials from SAS and key line departments including Agriculture (DAO), Horticulture (DHO), Veterinary & Animal Husbandry (Deputy CVO), Forestry (DFO), and Fisheries, alongside 60 participants, including six progressive farmers from Dimapur and Kiphire.
Reports on the implementation of recommendations from the previous SAC meeting, achievements of the KVKs, and progress for 2025 were presented by Dr. Phool Kumari, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK Dimapur, and Dr. Lahar Jyoti Bordoloi, Senior Scientist & Head, ICAR-KVK Kiphire. Dr. Bendangla Imsong, CTO, Plant Breeding, KVK Dimapur, along with Subject Matter Specialists of KVK Kiphire, outlined achievements and proposed the action plan for 2026.
During the interactive session, officials underscored the crucial role of KVKs in addressing farmers’ challenges through scientific interventions and stressed the importance of interdepartmental collaboration to foster inclusive agricultural development in the region.
