Nagaland: KVK Tseminyu SAC focuses on technology and farmer welfare

The Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) meeting of Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Tseminyu, Kohima, was held on February 6 at the KVK Conference Hall with deputy commissioner, Tseminyu, Japheth Woch, as the special guest.
According to a press release, the meeting was attended by officials from line departments including district HoDs, representatives from agri and allied departments, members of women’s clubs in Tseminyu district, and progressive farmers from Kohima and Tseminyu.
Speaking at the programme, Woch emphasized the importance of convergence among agri and allied departments to carry forward proven technologies for horizontal expansion, climate-resilient varieties, indigenous technical knowledge (ITKs), and agri-entrepreneurship in floriculture, particularly for women-led FPOs and SHGs. He lauded KVK Tseminyu, Kohima, for its efforts in uplifting the livelihood of the farming community in both districts.
Achievement reports for 2025 and the proposed annual action plan for 2026 were presented by senior scientist and head, KVK Kohima, Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu; ACTO (Veterinary & Animal Husbandry) Dr. Paihem Michui; ACTO (Genetics & Plant Breeding) Dr. Martina Shitri; SMS (Soil Conservation) Imtinuksung; SMS (Entomology) Eliseni Tsopoe; and SMS (Horticulture) Dr. Shisarenla Aier.
During the interactive session, officials underscored the crucial role of KVKs in addressing farmers’ challenges through scientific intervention and stressed the need for interdepartmental collaboration to foster holistic agricultural development in the district.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by DAO Tseminyu and SAC chairperson Keneisezo Punyu. Highlights of the SAC were presented by Dr. Ruokuovilie Mezhatsu, who elaborated on the role of KVKs as vital agricultural technology hubs, focusing on on-farm testing, frontline demonstrations, and capacity building for farmers, rural youths and extension workers.
A video film titled “Advancing Agriculture Through Innovation” by KVK Kohima was released by the special guest. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by technical officer, KVK Kohima, Dr. Sesenlo Kath.
