Nagaland launches Poshan Maah 2025 with statewide nutrition drive

DIMAPUR

Nagaland is set to join the rest of the country in observing Poshan Maah 2025, a month-long nationwide campaign aimed at promoting nutrition, health, and community-led action. The initiative will be officially launched on September 17 by the Department of Social Welfare through the State Project Management Unit (SPMU) under Poshan Abhiyaan.
Since its inception in 2018, Poshan Maah has evolved into one of India’s largest people’s movements for nutrition, engaging Anganwadi workers, ASHAs, schools, local bodies, and frontline departments. The campaign has played a pivotal role in raising awareness on malnutrition, hygiene, and holistic health across the country.
This year, Nagaland will observe five national focus areas through district-level activities, workshops, and rallies: Addressing Obesity – Promoting balanced diets and child growth monitoring; Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) – Strengthening pre-school learning under the theme Poshan Bhi Padhai Bhi; Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam – Encouraging tree plantation and nutrition gardens; Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) – Advocating breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and anemia prevention and Men-Streaming – Engaging men as nutrition champions and caregivers.
The campaign in Nagaland is being implemented through a convergence model involving multiple departments including Health & Family Welfare, School Education, NSRLM-Rural Development, Agriculture, Horticulture, Forest, Environment & Climate Change, and AYUSH. Local bodies, village councils, and community organizations are also actively participating.
Activities across districts include Poshan pledges, ECCE workshops, growth monitoring, anemia camps, food demonstrations, tree plantation drives, and Suposhan Diwas to involve fathers and youth in nutrition efforts. Closing ceremonies will recognize outstanding contributions by frontline workers.
Speaking ahead of the launch, Joint Secretary and Project Director of Poshan Abhiyaan, Nagaland, Ms. Olemjungla Aier stated, “Poshan Maah has become a nationwide Jan Andolan that unites government departments, communities, and families in the fight against malnutrition. In Nagaland, we are committed to blending traditional food practices and community strengths with this national effort to ensure healthier mothers, stronger children, and a nourished future for all.”
The Department of Social Welfare has called upon all citizens to actively participate in Poshan Maah 2025 and contribute towards building a Suposhit Bharat – Nourished India.
