Leaders and organisations across Nagaland have expressed profound grief over the sudden demise of veteran legislator and advisor for Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, Imkong L. Imchen, who passed away on November 11 at a private hospital in Guwahati.
Metsubo: Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir, described late Imchen as a towering leader, a dear friend and a respected statesman whose passing leaves an irreplaceable void. He recalled Imchen’s voluntary contributions to Aosenden and AKM during their formative years, which continue to resonate in the unity of the Ao community. Metsubo noted that over the past 25 years, Imchen served the State with distinction, holding key ministerial portfolios and demonstrating sincerity, foresight and compassion. Remembering him as a man of warmth and humility, Metsubo conveyed heartfelt condolences to Alila Imkong and the bereaved family.
C.L. John: Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change and Village Guards, C.L. John, has expressed deep shock and sorrow at the sudden demise of Imkong L. Imchen, advisor for Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation.
In a condolence message, C.L. John described late Imkong as a man of integrity, wisdom, and unwavering dedication to public service. Representing the 28 Koridang Assembly Constituency, the late leader served with distinction in various capacities under the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and was widely respected for his straightforwardness and tireless work ethic. “His passing is a profound loss not only to the Ao community and his constituency but to the Naga people as a whole,” C.L. John said, noting that his contributions and selfless service would be remembered with deep respect.
The minister extended condolences to the bereaved family, and prayed that the Almighty grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the family during this difficult time.
Kipili: DPDB chairman Kiphire, C. Kipili Sangtam MLA, expressed shock and sorrow, stating that Imchen’s passing was an irreparable loss to the State and its people. He lauded Imchen’s visionary leadership and commitment to public service, and prayed for strength and peace for the bereaved family.
CNTC: Central Nagaland Tribes Council (CNTC) remembered late Imchen as an outspoken leader who led from the front and was always eager to contribute to societal welfare. The Council highlighted his pivotal role in the formation of the Central Nagaland Legislators Forum (CNLF), where he served as co-convenor until his passing. CNTC termed his demise a great loss to the people of Central Nagaland and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
TUN: Tenyimi Union Nagaland (TUN), through its president Kekhwengulo Lea and general secretary Dr. Tumda Newme, described late Imchen as a veteran leader who served the Naga people with unwavering commitment. TUN recalled his upright and fearless nature, and his long and distinguished public service that left a lasting mark on Nagaland’s political and social landscape. The Union conveyed its deepest condolences and prayed for his soul to rest in peace.
SH: Sümi Hoho, in a condolence message issued by its president Dr. Vihuto Asumi, described late Imchen as a distinguished public servant admired for his eloquence, integrity and dedication to public welfare. A five-time MLA, he held several important portfolios including Home, Health & Family Welfare, Power, and Rural Development. The Hoho joined the people of Nagaland in mourning his passing and extended condolences to the bereaved family.
THN: Tangkhul Hoho Nagaland (THN) also paid tribute to late Imchen, recalling his early leadership as general secretary of NSF where he promoted unity under the theme “Nagas without Borders.” THN described him as bold yet approachable, and stated that his demise was a collective loss for Naga society.
