Liangmai Welfare Society Kohima (LWSK) celebrated the Chaga Gadi Festival with great enthusiasm and cultural fervour at Kruzo Park, Tsiese Basa, under the theme “Our Culture, Our Pride, Our Festival.” The event brought together members of the Liangmai community to honour and preserve their rich cultural heritage.
In his address, LWSK president, Rutmakbo extended warm greetings and conveyed his wishes for the progress and prosperity of the Liangmai community. He highlighted that Chaga Gadi is a festival of thanksgiving to God for His bountiful blessings, good harvest, and good health.
Assistant professor, CIH, Thunbuibo Zeliang presented an insightful message on the significance of Chaga Gadi. He explained that the festival marks the completion of the agricultural year and serves as a time to express gratitude to the Almighty. He further emphasized that the celebration fosters unity, peace, and brotherhood within the community, thereby preserving the rich cultural traditions of the Liangmai people.
The programme was presided over by sports secretary, LWSK, Bengkam Newmai. Pastor Rev. N. Silubo Zeliang offered blessings over the celebration, while the vote of thanks was proposed by treasurer, LWSK, Er. Kewizun Zeliang.
Other highlights of the celebration included a Best Traditional Attire Competition for children, shot put, and tug of war events. The celebration concluded with a grand community feast.
