The four‑day 53rd general conference of the Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) commenced on Wednesday at Old Changsu village, hosted by Englan Range Students Union under the theme “Transcend Beyond Borders.”
The introductory session was graced by Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA who extended warm greetings on behalf of his family and chief minister Neiphiu Rio. In his address, Humtsoe emphasized the importance of uplifting one’s community through mutual support and respect. Returning to the village after 50 years, he expressed pride in the progress achieved and noted that collective advancement across villages would further strengthen the community.
Speaking on political leadership, Humtsoe acknowledged that while politicians may face criticism and shortcomings, they play a crucial role in working for the welfare of the people. He urged the public to recognize these efforts, forgive shortcomings, and cooperate for the greater good. Addressing the rapid advancement of technology, he encouraged responsible use and reminded the gathering of the temporary nature of life, quoting, “Forgiveness is the fragrance that the rose gives to the hand that crushes it.”
Concluding his speech, Humtsoe reminded LSU of its responsibilities in shaping growth and progress, urging members to remain dedicated and strive toward a brighter future for the union and the community.
Ponphyamo Kikon, president of Wokha District Council Chairman Association, also delivered greetings. He appreciated the steady development of the host village and highlighted the sacrifices of parents and villagers in investing in children’s education. He urged students to value these contributions, remain cautious in their conduct, and respect both elders and younger members of society. Kikon further encouraged students to recognize their God‑given talents, nurture them, and actively contribute to society.
Highlights of the session included the release of a souvenir by LSU magazine secretary S. Zubenthung Ngullie, a special number by Ajano Odyuo, and the general secretary’s report by Chanpenthung Ovung.
