Nagaland: Mao Union Kohima celebrates Chüthuni festival

Mao Union Kohima celebrated Chüthuni under the theme “Treasuring Traditions, Celebrating Identity” at Naga Solidarity Park, Kohima, on Wednesday.
Honoured guest, Kohima Village chairman Helevio Solo, in his address, said festivals are integral to culture and heritage, serving as powerful mediums for preserving traditions and fostering social unity. He described festivals as living expressions of identity and history, connecting past, present and future. Solo noted that Chüthuni is one of the premier festivals of the Mao community, showcasing rich traditions through folk songs, dances and traditional sports. He also thanked the Mao Union for inviting Kohima village to be part of the celebration, thereby fostering friendship and stronger ties between the two communities.
Tsielhoutuo Rhutso, MLA in a short speech, said the day was meant to celebrate the good harvest bestowed by God and to renew friendships. He described it as a time to forgive misunderstandings and lauded the Mao community as mild and peace-loving, from whom the Nagas could learn ways of surviving beyond borders. He acknowledged the community’s contributions in administration, business and other fields, and described them as hardworking and active at grassroots, central government levels, as well as in politics and business.
Special guest, MLA of 48th Mao AC, Losü Dikho, highlighted the friendships and relationships between the Nagas and the Mao community which have grown stronger over the years. He informed that the Mao community will soon celebrate 100 years of Christianity and expressed gratitude to the Angamis for bringing them the Gospel. He emphasized the long-standing friendship and good relations between the Mao and Angami communities.
Earlier, Mao Union Kohima president E. Krelo delivered the welcome address, while organising committee convenor Kapania Krichena proposed the vote of thanks. P. Pani pronounced the benediction and blessing for the feast.
