Nagaland joined the rest of the country in commemorating the fifth anniversary of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 with a range of inclusive and participatory initiatives held under the nationwide Akhil Bharatiya Shiksha Samagam (ABSS) 2025 celebration on Tuesday.
In Kohima, the Nagaland Education Mission Society, Samagra Shiksha, in collaboration with Rashtriya Bal Swasthya Karyakram (RBSK) under the Department of Health & Family Welfare, organized a Mega Identification and Assessment Camp for Children with Special Needs (CwSN). Conducted at the Directorate of School Education and Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), the initiative aimed to provide access to educational and welfare entitlements for children with disabilities.
Altogether, 82 children from five EBRC blocks of Kohima district took part in the camp. A team of 11 doctors and 9 RBSK staff conducted detailed screenings for visual, auditory, dental, ENT, intellectual, and developmental concerns. Hearing aids were provided on the spot to children with hearing loss, and disability certificates were issued to facilitate access to relevant schemes.
Speaking at the inauguration, Vikhweno Chale, additional secretary, School Education & SCERT, stressed the importance of early intervention in improving learning outcomes for children with disabilities. Advisor for School Education & SCERT, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to inclusive and equitable education in line with NEP 2020. DEO Kohima Emilo Patton proposed the vote of thanks, while Deputy Mission Director Samagra Shiksha, Kelhikha Kenye chaired the programme. Senior officials, including Commissioner & Secretary, School Education Kevileno Angami, and department heads, were also present.
Similar camps are being planned across districts as part of Samagra Shiksha’s strategy to strengthen inclusive education under ABSS 2025.
Meanwhile, PM Shri Government Higher Secondary School, Kiphire participated in the nationwide video conference of ABSS 2025, inaugurated by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan from Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. SDO (C) Kiphire, Rozy Sangtam, attended the district-level viewing held at the school’s community hall alongside students, parents, and education officials.
