Nagaland MCTE Yimyu first institution in Mkg to undergo Green Audit

DIMAPUR

In a pioneering move towards environmental accountability, Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu, has become the first institution in Mokokchung district to undergo a Green Audit Inspection cum Physical Verification.
The inspection, initiated by the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of MCTE, was conducted by a three-member team from the Nagaland Pollution Control Board (NPCB), comprising Aghali A. Swu, Senior Environmental Engineer, Kevisede Pucho, Assistant Environmental Engineer, and Sentinaro Angami, Senior Scientific Assistant. The IQAC team from Jubilee Memorial College also participated, reinforcing collaborative efforts to promote sustainable educational practices in the district.
Welcoming the gathering, IQAC Coordinator of MCTE, Kerilhusa Peseyie, highlighted the importance of Green Audit in NAAC assessment and expressed optimism that the NPCB team’s involvement would bolster MCTE’s commitment to an eco-friendly campus. Principal of MCTE, Dr. T. Alemla Longkumer, voiced concern over the community’s slow response to environmental challenges and urged institutions to treat Green Audit not merely as a compliance measure but as a catalyst for awareness and action. She reaffirmed MCTE’s dedication to environmental advocacy and collaboration.
During the technical session, Aghali A. Swu delivered a presentation on the key components, methodology, and benefits of Green Audits for colleges. She emphasized the urgency of water conservation and responsible resource use, quoting, “We never know the worth of water till the well is dry.” Swu called for rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge, and energy-conscious practices, while urging a shift away from the prevailing ‘careless’ and ‘carefree’ attitude toward the environment.
An interactive discussion followed, after which the NPCB team conducted a physical verification of campus facilities and environmental practices. The initiative marks a significant milestone for MCTE in its ongoing journey toward sustainability and environmental stewardship.
