The 27th Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) Trophy is set for an exciting showdown as Doyang Strikers FC and Chargers FC face off in the grand finale at the Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung, on Saturday from 1 p.m. onwards.
The closing ceremony will feature Lanuchuba, DMC Councillor and president of Longtrok FC and the NPF Youth Wing, Dimapur Division, as the guest of honour.
Another feature of the ceremony will include unveiling of the poster for the 25th edition of Dr. T. Ao Trophy 2026.
Chargers FC booked their place in the final after edging past Telongjem FC 1–0 in Thursday’s semi-final match, with Illanger netting the decisive goal through a free kick in the 84th minute.
The semi-final match was graced by OSD (Sports), Department of Youth Resources and Sports, and Head of Coaches, Nagaland Football Association (NFA), Roko Angami, as the match patron.
In his address, Roko congratulated Mokokchung for being chosen to host the 25th anniversary edition of the Dr. T. Ao Trophy, calling it a fitting honour for the home district of India’s first football captain. He said the NFA had unanimously supported Mokokchung as the host district for this milestone event.
He also announced that Nagaland would host the Dr. T. Ao National Girls’ (U-16) Football Tournament on November 18, describing it as another proud moment for the state.
Highlighting the need for discipline and professionalism, Roko urged players to stay committed, attend trials, and represent their districts and the state with pride.
He further cautioned players against unhealthy habits, over-participation in tournaments, and complacency. “Discipline yourself, and no one else will need to discipline you,” he reminded the young athletes.
Roko concluded by encouraging players to train harder, stay humble, and aim to bring glory not only to their districts but to Nagaland as a whole — following the legacy of Dr. T. Ao.
With both teams fielding strong line-ups, football enthusiasts in Mokokchung are eagerly anticipating a thrilling final as Doyang FC and Chargers FC battle for the coveted MDFA Trophy title.
