Mini Hornbill Festival (TsüngkamnyoMünchi) was inaugurated on January 15, 2025, at Sangphur Public Ground, Sangphur Village, in a vibrant display of traditional customs and cultural performances.
The festival was hosted by Advisor, Youth Resources & Sports, S. Keoshu Yimkhiung, MLA. MP Supongmeren Jamir could not attend the event owing to ill health. His absence and message were conveyed by his PRO, SanglipongPongen, who attended the programme along with representatives from the MP Lok Sabha office and the Longsa Village Council.
Addressing the gathering on behalf of the MP, the PRO informed that Supongmeren Jamir had recently undergone eye surgery and later developed an infection, resulting in his admission to Mokokchung hospital and subsequent referral to Kohima for further treatment. The MP expressed regret over his inability to attend the festival and conveyed his best wishes to the organisers and participants. He also assured continued support to Sangphur Village and the Yimkhiung community, particularly in matters related to developmental activities.
The inaugural programme was chaired by Dorito M and R. Akhumla, while W/D (SBC), I. Nochitla, invoked God’s blessings. Welcome address was delivered by VCC, K. Rhakiumong. Cultural highlights included a presentation on headhunters by Sangphur Village and a series of traditional songs and rituals such as the Zhip welcome song, Tsüngkamnyo song of merry-making, Limtsu song symbolising unity, and other customary performances reflecting the rich heritage of the community.
Short speeches were delivered by 2nd G.B, R. Ahoshe, president of Sangphur Mihkhung Arihakho and chairman of Longsa Village Council, R. Kiuji. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by G.B, S. Mukam, and benediction by church clerk (SBC), K. Shophu.
