Nagaland: Mkg CWC warns against revealing identity of minor

DIMAPUR

Mokokchung District Child Welfare Committee (CWC) has expressed serious concern and strongly condemned the recent public disclosure of the face of a minor child on social media, reportedly involving a mentally challenged child believed by some to be possessed by an evil spirit.
In a press release, CWC chairperson stated that revealing the identity of a child in such circumstances amounted to a grave violation of the child’s fundamental rights and dignity.
CWC pointed out that under the provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, disclosure of the identity of any child in need of care and protection is strictly prohibited and punishable under the law.
In this regard, the committee called upon media organisations to strictly adhere to legal and ethical guidelines while reporting on issues involving minors. It also urged the general public to refrain from sharing or circulating any content that reveals the identity of a child.
