Advisor for Labour & Employment, Skill Development & Entrepreneurship and Excise, Nagaland, Moatoshi Longkumer on Thursday inaugurated the newly constructed colony road at Lane 15B in Kevijau Colony, marking the first infrastructure project undertaken by the Kevijau Women Organisation (KWO) under the Local Area Development Programme (LADP).
Addressing the inaugural programme as the keynote speaker, Longkumer lauded the initiative of the women’s organisation and highlighted the significant role women play in community development. He said women are capable of achieving many things and often accomplish tasks that men may not be able to do.
He further remarked that while Nagaland has traditionally depended heavily on the government for development, communities must also take the initiative to bring about progress. “The government cannot feed everyone like a baby. What truly matters is conviction, commitment and honesty,” he said.
Encouraging the womenfolk to remain active in social and developmental activities, Longkumer assured continued support for women-led initiatives. He stated that women are a source of strength for him and urged them to approach him whenever assistance was needed, while also assuring that priority would be given to women in Dimapur in developmental matters.
Speaking on the occasion, Nokchi Jamir, chairman of the Kevijau Colony Council (KCC), appreciated the efforts of the women’s organisation for successfully implementing the project for the benefit of the colony residents.
Earlier, the programme was chaired by KWO general secretary Kesovonuo, while the invocation prayer was offered by senior citizen M.T. Matsüng. Speaking about the project, KWO president Alem Obangmenla Jamir informed that the road construction covered approximately 200 metres and was completed within about 20 days. The project included an extension of the road by one foot along with the construction of a drainage system and four-inch concrete paving.
She noted that the project marked the first time women’s organisation had undertaken such an initiative under LADP, demonstrating the capability and commitment of women in contributing to community infrastructure and development.
The programme concluded with appreciation from community members for the efforts of the women’s organisation in improving local infrastructure and setting an example of community-driven development
